両方とも、メキシコとの国境沿いにあるからか、スペイン系が多かった。そして、古き良きアメリカの田舎街って感じで、色もカラフルで写真が映える映える!

移動の途中で立ち寄ったコンビニ的なストア。
色がカラフル！かわい！
ガソリンを入れてる時に撮った写真だったかと…
秋ですよねー。秋が一番好きです。
あ、ガソリン話で一つ。
アメリカでは州によって、ガソリン税が変わってきます。
例えば、今日、お話ししているテキサス州とニューメキシコ州は、(10月3日現在 $1=149.94円）
テキサス州 $3.33 = 499円
ニューメキシコ州 $3.71=556円
しかもこれ、1Lではなく1ガロンです。1ガロンって？驚きますよ？約3.78Lです。
なので、１Lで計算すると、
日本 175.7円
テキサス州 132円
ニューメキシコ州 147円
一番高いのは カリフォルニア州で$6.02=902.49円！？
１L 238円！？
まとめるとこんな感じ。。。

では、旅の話に戻しましょう。
この時、ホワイトシティというエリアを通りました。後から分かったんですが、この街は標高1,100mで少し高め。そうなんです。名前通り、霧で真っ白だったんです。視程距離５mもあったかな？すれ違ったと同時に対向車が認識できるくらいの霧でした。
奥の方に霧が写ってるの見えますか？
怖かったー。いつ抜けるかもわからない霧の道。止まったら、スピードを落としたら、命取りの恐怖の道。調べても、「霧が有名」など見つからなくて、今でも不思議です。
行ったことある方、ご存知の方、教えてください。笑
どうしても、この霧の街ホワイトシティのお話をしたかったんです。笑

A little story about my journey through Texas and New Mexico. Both states had a strong presence of Spanish-speaking communities, perhaps due to their proximity to the Mexican border. It felt like stepping into a nostalgic American countryside, with vibrant and colorful settings that were perfect for taking photographs!
I stopped by a convenience store along the way. Such vibrant and cute colors!
I think I took this photo while refueling my car… Ah, it’s autumn, right? Autumn is my favorite season.
Oh, speaking of gasoline, let me tell you something. In the United States, gasoline tax varies from state to state.

For example, as of today, in Texas it’s $3.33 per gallon, which is about 499 yen. In New Mexico, it’s $3.71 per gallon, approximately 556 yen.
And mind you, this is per gallon, not per liter. Wondering what a gallon is? It’s about 3.78 liters.
So, if we calculate per liter:
- Japan: 175.7 yen
- Texas: 132 yen
- New Mexico: 147 yen
The highest is in California, where it’s $6.02 per gallon, equivalent to 902.49 yen! That’s approximately 238 yen per liter!
Let me summarize it like this:

Now, let’s get back to the travel story. During the trip, I passed through an area called White City. Later, I discovered that this town is located at an elevation of 1,100 meters and is slightly higher. And true to its name, it was covered in dense white fog. The visibility was only about 5 meters, enough to see oncoming cars as they passed by simultaneously.
Here’s a picture I took after driving through the fog. Can you see the fog in the distance?
It was quite scary. A road engulfed in thick fog, never knowing when it would clear. Slowing down or stopping could be a life-threatening experience. I even tried searching for information about “famous fog” in that area but couldn’t find anything. It still puzzles me to this day. If you’ve been there or know anything about it, please let me know!

I really wanted to share this story about the foggy town, White City. Well, it’s all part of the journey to the destination, right? I’ll try to sprinkle more travel stories along the way, as they add to the essence of the trip!
