[旅情報]
ルアンパバーン空港から街中までは、車で１５分ほど。
ただし、歩くと１時間以上かかるらしいので、素直に乗合タクシーか宿泊先でピックアップを頼むほうがいいと思います。。。暑いしね。荷物重たいし。
ちなみに、街中へのバスや電車などの公共交通機関は、、、ありません！笑
[旅話]
合計６人で乗合タクシーに乗って、いよいよ空港から街中へ出発！
前列には、タイ人っぽいおじさん、仲良くなった日本人女性、欧米っぽいバックパッカー。
後列には、私、タイ人カップル２人。
先に前列の３人の宿に向かった。
日本人女性とは、小さい街やからまた会えそうですね！とさよならして
いよいよ後列の番が来た。
ここで問題が起きる。
私のホテル名が通じない！！！！！
Google mapで名前と場所を見せても、
🤷♂️
と。
なんで！！！！言葉が通じなくても、たいていGoogle map見せたらわかるやん！！
ホテル名を読み上げても、
🤷♂️
と。
タイとラオスの言語。タイ語とラオ語は発音が近いらしい。ラオス人がタイに出稼ぎにいけるほど、言語が似ていてあまり困ることはないらしい。
そこで、隣のタイ人が代わりにラオ語に近い発音で読み上げてくれた。
しかし、運転手は
🤷♂️
オーマイーガー。
どうしよう。
仕方なく、世界共通語である大阪弁とボディランゲージで、
「ここ曲がる！曲がって！こっち！そう！まっすぐ！！！ちゃうちゃう！こっち！」
と伝え、歩ける距離の大通り沿いで降ろしてもらった。
ここからはGoogle map大先生に頼るしかない。
しかも大通りに面していると思っていたら、するすると小道に誘導（Google mapに）された。
門をくぐると、敷地の真ん中に大きな池があって、その周りに何軒か宿がある場所だった。
フロントっぽいとこで、このホテルですか？とスマホを見せると、隣だよ。と言われ、
やっと辿り着いたのが、これから５泊お世話になる、私の住処だ。
チェックインの手続き中、ウェルカムフルーツをいただいた。
スイカとマンゴー
一瞬、マンゴーがドリアンかと思い、めっちゃ焦った。
日本のマンゴーはオレンジ色でじゅくじゅく？しているものが多いけれど、
こっちのマンゴーはあまり熟してなくて黄色いから、ドリアンにも見えなくないと思う。。。笑

[Travel Information]
It takes about 15 minutes by car from Luang Prabang Airport to the city center. However, I heard that it would take over an hour if you walk, so I think it’s better to either take a shared taxi or arrange for a pickup at your accommodation… It’s hot and your luggage might be heavy, after all. By the way, there are no public transportation options like buses or trains to the city center! Haha.
[Travel Story]
A total of six of us took a shared taxi and finally set off from the airport to the city center!
In the front row, there was an older-looking Thai gentleman, a friendly Japanese woman, and a backpacker who seemed to be from Europe or America.
In the back row, it was me and two Thai couples.
The first three people went to their respective accommodations. I said goodbye to the Japanese woman, saying that since it’s a small town, we might meet again! And finally, it was our turn in the back row.
And here’s where the problem occurred.
My hotel name didn’t ring a bell!!!!!
Even when I showed the name and location on Google Maps,

Nothing.
Why!!! Even if we can’t communicate in the same language, usually, people understand when you show them on Google Maps, right? Even when I pronounced the hotel name,

Nothing.
Thai and Lao languages. Thai and Lao are said to have similar pronunciations. The languages are similar enough that Laotians can work in Thailand without much trouble. So, the Thai person next to me tried to pronounce it in a way that was closer to Lao.
But the driver was like,

Oh my gosh.
What should we do?
Reluctantly, I resorted to using the universal language of Osaka dialect and body language to convey, “Turn here! Turn! This way! Yes! Straight ahead!!! No, no! This way!” And the taxi driver dropped us off along a main road within walking distance.
From here, we had no choice but to rely on the great teacher, Google Maps. And to make matters worse, it guided us through a small pathway instead of the main road.
As we passed through the gate, there was a large pond in the center of the property, surrounded by several accommodations. When I showed my smartphone at what seemed like a front desk, asking if this is the hotel, they said, “It’s next door.” Finally, I arrived at my home for the next five nights.
While going through the check-in process, I received a welcome fruit. Watermelon and mango. For a moment, I thought the mango might be durian and panicked. In Japan, mangoes are usually orange and juicy, but here, the mangoes are not very ripe and are yellow, so they don’t really look like durian… Haha.
