2017年のアメリカ横断旅のお話です！
仲間とキャンピングカーを借りて、ヒューストンからロサンゼルスまでの横断旅！
友人たちはニューヨークから本当の横断旅をしていて、私は途中合流でした。

時期 11月（秋〜冬）の約１ヶ月間
移動距離 ヒューストン🚀からロサンゼルス🍔まで
移動方法 キャンピングカー🚎
仲間 総勢６名（全員日本人🇯🇵です）
目的 それぞれの見てみたい景色のところへ、みんなで行く。
食事 キッチン付きのキャンピングカーだったので基本は自炊。他に、BBQしたり、スーパーでお惣菜買ったり、レストラン行ったりとその場に応じて。
今日は、ロサンゼルス空港に着いた初日の話です。
（まだみんなと合流する前のおはなし。）
飛行機は、
伊丹空港→羽田空港
羽田空港→ロサンゼルス空港
ロサンゼルス空港→ヒューストン空港
でした。
ロサンゼルス空港（LAX）はめっちゃ大きいハブ空港なので混みます。
しかも入国検査に時間がかかることで有名。慎重派の私は、ロサンゼルス空港で乗り継ぐ時は６時間以上あけるようにしています。（次の便に乗り遅れないように）
この時は、約12時間あいていたので、ロサンゼルスの街中へ遊びに出かけよう！と意気込んで、、、
はい、早速事件です。
なんと、テンション上がりすぎて、バスを間違えるという。。。
しかも、全く気づかない。笑
乗ってだいぶしてから、あれ？こんな田舎道やっけ？とあれ？あれ？って焦り始め、、、
でも、街めっちゃかわいい〜

窓から見える景色は昔ながらのアメリカ🇺🇸って感じで可愛かったので、「どこ着くか、わからへんけど、まあいいっか！次のフライトまで１２時間あるし〜」とのんびりモードに〜
結局たどり着いたのは、

実は、航空ファンにはよく知られている小さな空港だそうで
そんなことも知らない私はやってしもた感でいっぱい。
街自体は、アジア人ゼロ。アフリカンアメリカンばかりだから、子供ですら、私よりも身長でかい！（アメリカ・ヨーロッパなど欧米諸国に行くと、自分が子供サイズになるので異文化って不思議よね〜と思います。）
少し心細さを感じつつ、これもまた旅の醍醐味や！と気持ちを切り替え、そのまま空港へとんぼ返り🚌
でも、LAのあったかい空気と匂いが優しくて、不安もあったけど、少しだけ楽しかった!
そしてそのまま、空港で時間を潰し、深夜便でヒューストンへ✈️✈️✈️
ヒューストンには早朝５時に着く便で、先に横断旅をしていた仲間達がヒューストン空港に迎えに来てくれました！ありがと！
さあ、いよいよアメリカ横断旅の始まり🇺🇸
ロサンゼルスに着いただけで事件が起きて、この旅も珍道中になりそう！？

今日、「異文化理解」についての本を読んでいたら、興味深い内容が書いてあったので、ここに残しておきます。興味のある方はよかったら読んでください☺️
「文化」とは、人びとが生活する中で学習し、共有し、伝承してきた価値観や衣食住の様式、習慣などの行動様式といった生活文化の方である。各人間集団の精神的基底を形成する「日常的な」文化である。
小学校英語教育の基礎知識,村野井仁,2018,大修館書店
異文化を学ぶというテーマの話なんですが、「文化」には大きく二つの意味があって、①芸術・教養 ②社会的な文化（生活スタイル）だそうです。「異文化が好き！」と発言しておきながら、なんかフワッとしてるなあと思っていた答えがこれでした！文化は文化でも、生活文化に心が惹かれている！！目の前の霧が晴れるとはこのことです。さーーーーーって！スルスルするするーーーーーー！って笑
なぜだかわかりませんが、異文化とは、勝手に芸術分野のことだと思いこんでいて（冷静に考えたらそんなことないんですけどね笑）、日本の文化を伝えるときも、お寺の建築とか、着物の芸術的要素など、物自体は生活文化だけど、説明する時は芸術的視点ばっかで話していたなと気づきました。
自分の新たな発見です。忘れないようにメモしとこっと思って、書かせていただきました笑
なんとなくですが、アジアを旅していると生活文化が目立つというか、やっぱ、ヨーロッパは芸術の歴史が長いからかな？ヨーロッパでは芸術文化しか記憶にないなって思って。。。私がちゃんと見てないだけかな？この件に関して、もう少し自分で深掘りしようと思います！

2017 Cross-America Road Trip
This is a story about my cross-America road trip in 2017! My friends were already on a real cross-country adventure, starting from New York, and I joined them along the way.
Here’s some travel information:

Country: United States of America 🇺🇸
Time: Approximately one month in November (from autumn to winter)
Distance: From Houston 🚀 to Los Angeles 🍔
Mode of transportation: Campervan 🚎
Companions: A group of six, all Japanese 🇯🇵
Objective: To visit the scenic spots we each wanted to see, together
Meals: We had a campervan with a kitchen, so we mostly cooked our own meals. Sometimes we would have BBQ, buy ready-made meals from supermarkets, or go to restaurants, depending on the situation.
Today, I will share the story of the first day when I arrived at Los Angeles International Airport (LAX) before meeting up with my friends.
The flight route was:
Itami Airport → Haneda Airport
Haneda Airport → Los Angeles International Airport
Los Angeles International Airport → Houston Airport
LAX is a huge hub airport and tends to be crowded. It is also famous for long immigration procedures. Being cautious, I always leave at least six hours between connecting flights at LAX to make sure I don’t miss my next flight. This time, I had a layover of about 12 hours, so I decided to explore the city of Los Angeles!
And so, the adventure begins.
To my surprise, I got overly excited and ended up taking the wrong bus.
I didn’t realize it until quite some time had passed on the journey. I started to panic, thinking, “Wait, is this a rural road? What’s going on?”
But the town looked so cute. I decided to take some pictures.
The view from the window had that nostalgic American charm. I thought to myself, “Well, I don’t know where we’ll end up, but it’s all good! I have 12 hours until my next flight, so let’s just relax.” I switched into a laid-back mode.
Eventually, we arrived at Van Nuys Airport.

As it turns out, it’s a small airport well-known among aviation enthusiasts. I had no idea, so I felt quite embarrassed. The town itself had no Asians, only African Americans. Even kids there were taller than me! (When Japanese travel to Western countries like the United States or Europe, it’s fun to experience being smaller in stature than usual. It’s fascinating how different cultures can be.)
Feeling a bit anxious, I decided to embrace this as part of the adventure and turned my feelings around. Without delay, I headed back to the airport.
Even so, the warm air and pleasant scent of LA made the experience a little enjoyable despite the anxiety.
And so, I spent time at the airport, and late at night, I boarded a flight to Houston.
I arrived in Houston in the early morning at 5 am. My friends who had already started their cross-country trip came to pick me up at the Houston Airport. Thank you!
Now, the real cross-America road trip begins! Just arriving in Los Angeles, there was already an eventful incident. This journey is going to be full of adventures!

Today, while reading a book on “cross-cultural understanding,” I came across some intriguing content, so I wanted to share it here. If you’re interested, please take a look! ☺️
The term “culture” refers to the way of life, encompassing values, lifestyles, habits, and other behavioral patterns, learned, shared, and passed down by people as they go about their lives. It’s the “everyday” culture that shapes the underlying foundation of each human group.

This discussion revolves around the theme of learning about different cultures, and it turns out that the term “culture” has two significant meanings: ① Arts and Humanities and ② Societal Culture (Lifestyle). I used to say, “I love different cultures!” without really understanding it, but now it makes sense. I’m drawn to everyday life culture! It’s like the fog in front of my eyes has cleared. So, onwards we go!
For some reason, I had this misconception that “cross-cultural” meant art-related stuff (though when I think about it, it doesn’t make much sense 😅). Even when I talked about Japanese culture, I tended to focus on artistic elements like temple architecture and the artistic aspects of kimonos, even though the items themselves are part of daily life culture. It’s a new discovery for me. I wanted to make a note of it so I wouldn’t forget and decided to write it down with a smile.
I have this vague sense that when traveling in Asia, you notice more of the everyday life culture, while in Europe, perhaps it’s because of its long history of art that art culture stands out. Maybe I just haven’t been looking closely enough? I plan to dig deeper into this matter myself!
